Just set it up today without using a solenoid valve. The cylinder is solidly built. However the bubble counter is leaking from the port where you inject water into it. I sealed the port with tight fitting 1-way valve and it worked fine after. I think overall for its price, the quality is decent.
Some hiccups with finding the shipping company but the seller was very responsive to deal with the problem. The product was received on time in the end.
