  • Matt Alber-- The voice of a rising star

I first heard Matt Alber when a message on Facebook directed me to his site on YouTube where the music video for "End of the World" (on this album) can be found. I was enchanted by his voice, his lyrics, and the video. I immediately ordered the album on ITunes (and got a "hard copy" on Amazon; I bought two more here on Ebay to give as gifts). Alber's voice is enthralling (you can see others of his videos and see for yourself). He has an extraordinary vocal range (on YouTube check out his counter-tenor version of Handel's "But who may abide the day of his coming" from Messiah-- it's nearly perfect for a live performance). Lyrically, this album moves from transformation ("Monarch") to humorous history ("Field Trip Buddy") to cultural history ("Beotia"), beguiling us with simple stories that ...

  • Poetic, alternative, and musically diverse!

Matt Alber is a great vocalist- after this album, he ultimately continued recording on his own without the demands of “Tommy Boy Records”. For a first album- its great, and very diverse thematically. Constant Crows (second) was really good. Personal favorite is “How High The Moon” which is probably only available on Spotify. Great vocals, and a well-rounded musician if you enjoy alternative repertoire
