I bought Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage simply because it coincided Comfort, which I think is one of the all time truly great short stories. I had already read most of the other stories in this book in various anthologies of Munro's work. A former editor at Little Brown Publishers asked me to read Comfort and send him my take on the ending. I am evermore grateful to him for that request. I suspect the story has not been included in her anthologies because it reflects Munro's irreligious stance so firmly and eloquently and because it is about the "steely devotion" required when honoring a deceased loved one's final wishes. Every story in the book is a jewel. Highest recommendation!
