Her childhood is plagued by a mystery-the sudden death of her mother, followed by her father's best friend and partner, ending with the tragic death of a noble woman of a wealthy family who has employed her father to forge for them. As the story unravels, she falls in love with Lord Crowell, a powerful regent from the House of Basarb and cousin to Prince Vlad.
