I bought the WM on Blu Ray because I assumed the picture quality would have been remastered or something, but the quality was quite poor, probably just the original film transferred to disk. There are 3 versions of the film on the 2 main disks, and a third disk which is the soundtrack. I had never seen the film, albeit a classic, so I took a chance. The film of course is pretty amazing, but I found the 3 different versions a bit confusing (why make different versions) with two of the three versions having some footage that the others didn't, so it's like having to watch all three just to see the full picture. Anyway, I'm not really a WM fan. It was a classic I thought I should watch at long last. The film was great, but the quality was not at all blu-ray but only what you might expect from an old film. Unless you are a big fan and this matters to you, just buy a cheaper DVD and keep that on your shelf. I've already given this blu-ray set away to a Keech charity shop.Read full review

The film itself is indeed a horror movie, but defies genre. It's a dark, dark comedy of sorts - reminiscent of the old TV series The Prisoner in its disconcerting changing of familiar buildings and clothes into something alien - a musical (the music infuses the film almost wholly, with the only odd music being an out-of-place funky electric guitar score very near the end when Woodward is trying to escape pursuit), and a detective story. The vacant smiles and constant digressions the villagers and Lord make when talking to the policeman just keep building and building the tension, until the nature of the old religion makes itself clear. Finally, you feel that both Christian and heathen are equally wrong and equally impotent as the villagers sing and dance on the windy grassland. This sacrifice feels both dreadful (Woodward is amazing in the last act) and pointless, as the villagers cavort in the windy sunset, you feel the gesture they are making to nature is pointless, and nature will do what it will do, and the actions of men won't change a thing.Read full review

This film has never failed to engage me after many years of viewing. The actual theatrical cut I believe is the best, although the directors cut and final cut all have their merits. All three are included in this set. The soundtrack is totally enchanting and is also included as a standalone disc. Although this film has finally been given the recognition it throughly deserves, maybe not for everyone, it is still a standout of british seventies cinema. Recommended.

Finally a good edition on bluray of this great british cult movie. The ending is still today some of the most beautiful but scary scenes ever. Recommended movie for any cinephile and movie-lover.
