Last Night I Had the Srangest Dream
This is a CD version of an album I owned over 35 years ago. I remembered about half the songs on the album, but the whole album has gotten better with age. Cut #4 is entitled "Hope" and it fits Obama so perfectly, I bought 2 copies of this CD and mailed Obama one pleading for him or someone on staff to play song #4. The album was done in the midst of protest against the Vietnam War, and cut #8 is entitled "Eugene Pratt", a conscientious objector. The end line in the song asks if suppose all those drafted had told Selective Service "no" like Eugene and Muhammad Ali, "There would be no one / to carry those damn guns" and no more war. Seems naive now, and an anachronism, due to the all-volunteer military, but the song is very powerful eventoday, even ... This is a CD version of an album I owned over 35 years ago. Domino theory, Al Qaida in Iraq, weapons of mass destruction, yeah right. Cut 6 concerns racism. Cut 9 is another antiwar ballad "Mother, Say Goodbye" and the last cut is a sarcastic rendition of "My Country Tis of Thee". I think cut #2 "She's a 24 Hour Sweetheart (She's a 24 Hour Girl)" is hilarious. By far, Mason Proffitt's best work.
