Still good 45 years later
I bought this album on cassette in October 1977. At the time I felt it was beautifully produced but a bit too gentle at times. 45 years later means that I can judge it on its own terms rather than what was going on at the time. With the additional of some extra tracks, including a 1976 / 1977 live version of Medicine Man, it is better than ever. The latter was on a vinyl EP at the time but was split over both sides!I bought this album on cassette in October 1977. Excellent Band Excellent CD Excellent Experience
Barclay James Harvest are from Oldham, the same town as me and despite playing concerts in Germany to crowds of upto 250,000 they could walk almost unrecognised through the town. I have never understood why the majority of the music buyers and concert goers of this country didn't take them to their heart. Gone to earth is a classic and is the 3rd best selling album of all time in Germany. I have friends in Germany who still rate BJH over other better known UK bands of this genre. Since the sad demise of Woolly and Mel the two remaining members have gone their own way with John Lees's BJH and BJH featuring Les Holroyd. Both bands produce songs of the highest quality and play regularly around the UK and Europe and are well worth the entry money.
