    DECK OF KNOTS - Boy Scouts of America

    I have done a lot of teaching youth & adults about rope, knots, and lashings. I would NOT recommend this as your first or only teaching-learning tool. GOOD: There is some good information about ropes and rope construction, and includes modern/synthetic materials. Older publications and older approaches to knots don't have this information since they normally relate ONLY to the natural fiber ropes. If you apply the older techniques for natural fiber ropes to the modern synthetic ones, you can run into BIG trouble; many of the "old reliable" knots simply won't hold. BAD: The illustrations and the instructions are fine as far as they go; however if you are new to ropes and lashings, you are liable to end up in the middle of trying to tie a new knot and then not be able to ...
