Memorable - But Just a Shadow of the H.G. Wells book.(Read the Book)

The HG Wells book 'The Time Machine' is one of my favorite books in all my life. I watched the movie with Rod Taylor when I was very young in the 1960s and at that time I thought the movie was great. But once I read and re-read the book over the course of decades - As an adult I realize now that the movie is clearly not up to the standards of the book. The book describes how the Time Traveler and Wena explore the Green Porcelain Museum and how the Morlocks finally abduct Wena and take her away to her doom. The Time Traveler is incapable of saving her, even though he had resolved to take her back to his time if he could recover the time machine.

  • GREAT MOVIE...BUY...ENJOY

An ebay seller listed a PBS special titled THE TIME MACHINE JOURNEY BACK with ROD TAYLOR ALAN YOUNG in a VHS format. Unfortunately, it was too pricey for my budget. After an Internet search, I found that the special was included as an 'attachment' to a DVD re-release of the original movie. I found THE TIME MACHINE (DVD 2000) listed by another seller and I contacted the seller asking if the PBS special was included on the DVD. The seller confirmed in the affirmative, and I purchased the DVD. THE TIME MACHINE (DVD 2000) is a great old movie which takes you from December 31, 1899 into the far distant future, further ENHANCED by the inclusion of the PBS special which covers the making of the movie, along with a short addition to the movie in the form of a 'return to ...

  • Time Machine (Original 1960's)

The Time Machine was made from the Orson Wells story, which showed how the world was viewed through the times of 1890's up to the destruction of humanity in the 1960's. I enjoy how the basis of time travel is made with an almost believable story line of how the main character meets the son of his best friend and again later in the story. Also it shows how people who dont take life seriously over a long period of time become just a piece of flesh (Iloi) to be used by anyone or anything, i.e. the murlocks. This is one of the best films of its time and is also a family movie everyone can watch.

  • Worthy of Praise

When it comes to producing films based on great literature, give me the classics. This 1960 version of The Time Machine is loyal and true to the text with very little "poetic license" in the script. The actors and the settings replicate the simpler times and the stolen innocence that can occur when technology outweighs the human capacity to understand its proper use. It was refreshing to watch and made my students appreciate the author all the more versus their reaction to the modern film with the same title (2000). This is definitely worth the time and effort to obtain and view, especially if you are a classic Scifi buff.

  • One of the Great Science Fiction Movies!

This is such a great film. Done by the masterful George Pal, this 1960 film has a great story, pretty neat effects (for the time), and the coolest time machine ever! Sure, there are some strange anomalies, and some Hollywood sappiness, but basically this is a fine rendering of one of H. G. Wells finest tales! Rod Taylor and Alan Young are excellent, and Yvette Mimieux..well... I was in love with her as a boy! Enjoy!
