At the right price this is all the CPU you need for a while
Excellent upgrade from i5, i7 and FX processors of a few years ago. At the current new and used price the 1600X is a good choice to use as is. The 1600 can often be overclocked to the same speed as the 1600X but the gain isn't worthwhile unless you are seriously into overclocking. I have another PC with an 1800X and in day to day use the difference between the 6 core and 8 core parts is not really obvious unless you look at benchmarks as they both share similar base and boost clock speeds. At the time of writing this, you can carry out pretty much any PC task you NEED and run the latest games without issue assuming you have a suitable GPU (MID to HIGH end). Motherboards to run this CPU are plentiful and cover most budgets so it's possible to build a gaming capable PC for minimal ... Excellent upgrade from i5, i7 and FX processors of a few years ago. The 1st GEN Ryzen parts make all the early Core 2, i5 and i7 processors look expensive by comparison. There is still a lot of life left in the 1600X and there is an upgrade path (assuming you have a suitable motherboard) to upgrade to the 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen parts when they get cheaper in the future. Only issue I have seen on this generation of Ryzen is that DDR4 memory compatibility is a little finicky especially if run at higher than 2933MHz or more than 2 sticks.
