This game is basically the part 2 The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The story is interesting and maneuvering the ship is fun. I am almost done with the game and its getting more challenging but the adventure experience has been fun. After I am done with this game I am going to check out Spirit tracker. I don't want to give any details about this game because I am afraid of giving any spoilers for those who have not played this game. Graphics 9/10, sound 10/10 and the way the movement is function for this game at first it was difficult because its something new for me. You have to use the pointer with the touch screen and something new and something you need to get used to. Anyway, pick it up and try out.

Phantom Hourglass suffers from the early DS games over-reliance on the touch screen, almost all in game controls ignore the DS's physical controls in favor of some touch screen gimmick that feels much clunkier than other games in this beloved action-rpg series. The story is still a compelling direct sequel to Wind Waker and may compel seasoned Zelda collectors to take the plunge.

Set some time after The Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass opens with Tetra and her pirate crew along with Link chasing down a ghost ship claimed to have taken sailors and residents of the local islands. The crew discovers the ship, but when Tetra goes aboard to explore, she disappears. Link attempts to follow her but ends up adrift in the ocean. Link later recovers through the help of the fairy Ciela, who has some amnesia about her past, and an old man named Oshus, who help Link on his quest to find the ghost ship and reunite with Tetra. To that end, they enlist the help of the reluctant Captain Linebeck and his ship after saving him from the Temple of the Ocean King; Linebeck only offers to help with the expectation of finding treasure along the way[5]. Link discovers that to learn of the ghost ship's position, they must find the Spirits of Courage, Wisdom, and Power, using maps and clues hidden in the Temple of the Ocean King. However, to overcome the evil forces in the Temple, Link must make use of the Sands of Hours within the Phantom Hourglass and possessed by other creatures around the islands to prevent his life force from being drained. With the aid of the Hourglass, Link is able to locate and ally with the Spirits of Wisdom and Power easily, but the Spirit of Courage he finds looks exactly like Ciela. Oshus explains that Ciela is actually the Spirit of Courage and she lost her memory when Bellum attacked her. He also reveals that he himself is the Ocean King. Oshus further explains that he and Ciela had to take their present forms to hide from the life-eating monster Bellum, who is the cause of the ghost ship and other evil in the local area, and has taken residence at the very depths of the Temple. Link succeeds in his attempt to rescue Tetra with the help of the three Spirits, but finds Tetra is now a statue, a further effect of Bellum's life-draining power. Link is ready to continue but Linebeck initially refuses to help further having come up empty-handed for treasure so far, though agrees to continue once Oshus promises to grant Linebeck one wish after Link's quest is complete. The weapon to banish Bellum Link learns that the only way to defeat Bellum is to forge the Phantom Sword from three unique, "pure" metals around the local islands. After collecting the materials and forging the Phantom Sword, Link descends to the bottom level of the Temple, and initially appears to defeat Bellum. Tetra is freed from the statue form and revived, but before the group can celebrate, Bellum reemerges from the ocean depths and takes Tetra again. In the ensuing battle of the S.S. Linebeck and the ghost ship, Linebeck's ship is lost, as well as Oshus, and Link and Tetra are captured. Linebeck reluctantly picks up the Phantom Sword and is able to free Link and Tetra, at the cost of his own freedom, but is able to give Link back the Phantom Sword before Bellum possesses Linebeck and turns him into a Phantom-like knight, but Link is ultimately able to vanquish Bellum without harming Linebeck. As the adventure closes, the sand from the Phantom Hourglass is released into the sea. Oshus, now in his true form of a white blue whale, readies to depart with the Spirits, while Linebeck, surprising everyone, wishes not for treasure but for his ship back. After everyone says their goodbyes, Link and Tetra find themselves back on the pirate ship, where it seems only ten minutes have passed for the rest of the crew and they insist that it was all a dream.Read full review
I am just starting to play this game Sept.2011,my 1st Zelda ds game at that,on my 3DS system.I am really enjoying this game. It is hard to do some of the movements, though. Like blowing out candles, blowing windmills-I did pre mic test, everything is good. I never played ds game I had to do these, and I should add, this is my 1st hand held gaming system-ever! so I'm not familiar with everything just yet. This game is just as good,as full screen Zelda game, you'd play using Wii system. It's full of adventures, quests, boss's,and ship you control! I haven't seen Epona{horse}yet,I haven't pre read this game,so I don't know who is in this, and who isn't.I just playing it,learning as I go. game play control,is totally you, doiing every move. You use your stylus to move, battles, weapons, swimming will kill you-stay out of water. I am still playing this game, not even half way yet,at least I don't think I am. I just got back,to go back in for my 3rd spirit. I have aquired boat pieces,so I can alter my ship, making it stronger, better. You can do many moves using your stylus, and you move your ship, place to place same way. while in your ship, you need to watch out for enemies. You have clues/hints you need to figure out,and quests you come across, but can't complete until your further in game-keep notes so you don't forget! This is a great game, going slow for me as,I'm not 100% knowing/comfortable with my 3DS system, just yet. I highly recomend this game,as you are completely involved in this game.It has a lot of adventures, quests, weapons, enemies,to keep you going, never getting bored.Graphics are really great, very colorful, vivid, better than I thought it would be.Storyline fits this game, kinda interresting.I do have to say this:you do have to use your stylus every second-if your not liking this, then this game may not be for you. When your comfortable with using stylus constantly-then this will be great game :-} Next game in this series,I'll be playing is:Zelda Spirit Tracks ds game.I'm getting into Zelda mode, for november 20th release of:Zelda Skyward Sword for Wii.Either regular game for $49.99 or Gold pkg.that comes with :Gold Wii motion plus, game disc,CD music-I'm getting Gold pkg. :-}Read full review
"This game is... EPIC!" I know, I know. Epic? Am I exaggerating? Nope. Few games reach epic status, one such game is Metroid Prime. I know. Am I going so far as to compare this game to Metroid Prime? No. This game is astounding. Graphics: 10/10 The graphics of the game are quite a lot like Wind Waker's, which means graphics are either something you love, or something you hate. I am personally a fan of Wind Waker's graphics, because it is more of a storybook style, and I persoanally enjoy that, because it makes you feel like you are enjoying a great fantasy novel, as well as playing a game. That is why I give the graphics a ten. Sound: 10/10 The sound takes you back, as always, with that first "You found a secret! DANANANANA-NANA!", and takes you back to the Wind Waker days; not a huge time jump, but enough to make you nostalgic for that ol' GCN game; the game of so many hidden treasures. The time you hear the sailing song again, you will sigh with relief. It's back... your home... Story: 10/10 The story in this game is quite intresting. Tetra has been kidnapped, and you must find her. Wow, big suprise, right? However, the story gets more and more intresting with every new dungeon. It is great. Puzzles: 10/10 Ok. You may start to think I am kissing up to this game, but the puzzles are amazing. Sure, they are the same ol' Push Block, Hit Switch in Right Order conviently located on sign, but then there are new puzzles such as "Open the door by writing the number of palm trees on the beach on the sign". It is like playing "Trace Memory" With Zelda. Thumbs up! Gameplay: 10/10 From learning to roll to the Phantom Dodgings, to finding the way to find the secret cave, it is epic. Sailing, sadly, has taken a small toll, as now you may not free sail, instead navigate in a line. Fortunately, ship battles, Beedle, and barrels to dodge are still cool. Go ahead. You know the game. Let's play Overall: 10/10 For the reasons stated above, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass has achieved Epic-hood. You can't beat this game. Well, you can, because if you don't then you will have failed game-hood, or your dignity, but this game deserves respect, care, and honor. This game will live on as one of the greatest DS games of our time. It isn't Twilight Princess, but in some ways it is better (Because this game actually has hard puzzles before Arbiter's Ground!). You will love this game. Welcome home, Link. Go on. You can stop reading. Go play. Reviewer's Score: 10/10 Game Release: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (US, 10/01/07)Read full review
The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass takes players back to the colorful bold style of The Windwaker, which was realesed three years earlier on the Nintendo Gamecube. Phantom Hourglass has every thing you can expect from and Zelda game...even more, the game presents a vaster amount of strategy and puzzles. Some parts in Phantom Hourglass are challenge based, while the core game remains true to the series. You will assist a lazy captain named Linebeck and travel the seas in search for dungeons and treasures. While game may bring back memories of Windwaker, navigating the seas may make you remember it and miss it. Instead of activily controlling the ship players draw a line on the map and then basically just watch the ship sail to the destination the whole time. This appears to be the only dull part of the game. The controls almost entirely consist of the stylus and shoulder buttons. This use of the stylus is actually simple and glitchless. I"m always amazed at how smooth Zelda games work.Read full review
The legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The good: Good Graphics, Better story than Wind Waker, Not having to deal with wind when sailing, Great top down action, Good controls once you get used to them, As always, great musical score, you can make the exact path for your boomerang with the touch screen and extremely fun gameplay. The Okay: The controls are all touch screen and hard to get used to. I wish they would've given users a choice between touch and analog controls, it takes around 30 mins to get used to the controls. Some of the side characters are quite annoying. Too much reading. At times it's hard to know where to go (as was the same with wind wakers). The bad: A little too short for a Zelda game. IT took me around 23 hours to beat it. Overall, this game is excellent. My only real grip is the exclusivly touch screen controls, a choice would've been nice! But they do work pretty well after you get used to it. If you didn't like Wind Waker for the GC, you probably won't care for this either, although it is a liitle more fun now that you don't have to deal with wind direction etc...when sailing. I really love the top down view; it makes me long for the days of old. The story is definitly it's strong point and it never feels tiresome when running around. This game isn't "Twilight Princess" to be sure; but is a definite must buy for Zelda fans and DS owners alike!Read full review
At first hearing about how The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass would be controlled completely with touch control I thought it might of been a bad idea. I thought touch control would get in the way of the action. I thought it would be difficult to pull of the moves Link could do in previous games. Boy I was dead wrong. All touch control is almost a stroke of genius. It's all very simple to control Link, anyone can do it. While controlling Link may be easy you deftdently can't say the same for the mind-boggling puzzles, fiendish enemies, and awe-inspiring bosses. There are a few things in Phantom Hourglass that are brand new to the world of Zelda. Number 1 is obviously touch control. Second is the inclusion of a multiplayer! Finally you can beat up on your friends, siblings, and people you don't even know in pitched sword to sword combat! Third is Wi-fi. Now people in Norway, Grenada, Bolivia, and even Canada will be able to get some butt-kicking from you. Fourth and finally is a sort of master dungeon called the Temple of the Ocean King has been added. At first you can only go down so many floors. But if you comeback inbetween every dungeon or two you will able to travel father into the temple. This temple however has a curse on it. So every second you lose a quarter of a heart, uh-oh, thats not good. That's where the Phantom Hourglass comes in handy. This hourglass starts out having only ten minutes of sand in it when you first get it. Every second your in the Ocean King's temple the sand slowly runs out, but while it still has sand in it you are immune to the temples curse. You can get more sand for you Hourglass throughout the game. So you want to get The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass for your DS believe me. Don't have DS? Phantom Hourglass is a perfect excuse to get one. This game is filled with dozens of cool wacky characters. All cartoony like. Some cool new things are a wallet that hold not 999 rupees (Zelda currency) but 9999 rupees! There's also a cool new sword brand new to the Zelda series. A lot of the game is spent on water just like Wind Waker. Only the way you sail has been much improved. You can even customize you own ship so it looks cooler and has more hearts. Your boat has a heart meter of it's own. Captain Linebeck your ships' navigator drives the boat. All you have to do is tell him where to go and fire you cannon that has infinite ammo. The story is strong too. So overall The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass is unbelievably great. I hope my review helped you.Read full review
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS is a great game for hardcore Hyrule fans and for newcomers to the Zelda series alike. I am writing this review from the perspective of a 20 something guy who bought a new game for his wife for her DS. What gives Hourglass an edge on many of the other action/adventure games for the DS is how well it uses the dual screen touch features. All actions and control in this game are based on the stylus, making it a great chance for those who are not trained in the way of video games to pick up and play. The stylus actions work very much like a computer mouse does and it makes tasks like using the sword or the bow simple point and touch methods rather than the elaborate controls that are predominant in so many games. My wife really enjoyed this game due to the fact it is not based on fast twitch play like most Mario games are, but is more based on problem solving and exploration. If you are looking for a good game for the Link fan in your home, or you are just looking for a good title to get someone into gaming this is a good choice for you. BigDemarestRead full review
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is a fantastic game. It's definitely a throwback to The Windwaker, with the same graphics and some recurring characters. I won't waste time or space going through an overview of the plot...you'll just have to play the game yourself. I will say that the gameplay is great and while using the stylus to direct Link's movements takes a little getting used to, it actually makes a lot of sense...just tap an enemy to attack it! The only real complaint I have is that the gameplay is very quick. I passed the game in about a week, and it's not like I was playing it all day every day. The bosses were also a little on the easy side...with the exception of the one in the Goron temple (I had such a hard time beating that one!). In any case, it's definitely worth the time you'll spend playing it. Excellent game!Read full review
