  • easy fix

exact part...re-flying a $100 plane for easy money...the shaft and gearbox take the brunt or nose dives and collisions...if your blade/motor is noisy, wobbly or showing excessive vibration....check this part on your plane...if loose or cracked, the torque from the motor/prop will give you small to increasingly large flight issues....great bargain for such a key part ! Make sure to note the angle the gear case is installed also it should be at a slight angle to counter propeller torque.

  • A necessary part if you nose dive crash your plane

My son nosedived his Horizon Hobby Sport Cub S into the ground and the gearbox completely broke where the propeller shaft is held into the gearbox. This cannot be repaired and can only be replaced. It is nice that the gearbox is complete with propeller shaft and gear and is assembled where I don't have to assemble it. Downside is the gearbox in the plane is glued in with what amounts to bathroom caulk and the old one must be cut out. The new gearbox also has to be glued in with an appropriate adhesive. I tried hot glue as recommended by Horizon Hobby, but this did not hold during subsequent crashes. The four spikes that the gearbox pokes into the foam only help guide the positioning of the gearbox as the holes are a little larger after the subsequent crashes. I now have glued in the gearbox using bathroom caulk just on the top as I fear if I use the bathroom caulk in the mounting holes where the spikes go, I will not be able to remove the gearbox is it breaks again. Hopefully this will be enough to hold it in and also add a little flexibility for subsequent crashes.
