Records exactly what you see through this 10X binocular in superb 3D and 2D video.
Great product. Three things attracted me to the Sony DEV-3: 3D recording, recording of the same thing you are seeing in the binoculars, and up to 10X optical zoom. I’ve been highly disappointed by the recording binoculars that seem only to be a camera, with its own optical path, in the same housing as a binocular with its own optical path: The pictures taken have little relationship to what was viewed in the binocular at the time. Of course, I had read reviews that complained it is hard to adjust camera settings on the DEV-3 because of the various modes and the design of the buttons. But, since I was forewarned, I anticipated it might take some getting used to – and it has. But that is not a showstopper for me. Later models record GPS location and boost the optical zoom to 12x. But those models sell for a thousand or more dollars than this one and those additional features are not that important to me. What is important is the superb picture quality I see while just viewing through the binoculars and the superb 3D and 2D video it records as well as the superb high-resolution photos it takes. Yes, it is heavier and bigger than the later models. But I really love its appearance and can live with its weight. Be careful buying non-Sony replacement batteries! Some that claim to be fully equivalent to the Sony FP-FV100 are just a millimeter or so too large to fit into the battery compartment. My only concern now it to find a converter that converts the file format written on memory cards by the DEV-3 while recording in 3D. I hope to convert the DEV-3 files to one of the formats more widely used by other 3D recording camcorders.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Excellent Binoculars/Camera unit !
As binoculars they zoom from .8 to 10x magnifacation with auto focus & excellent sharp image - no edge distortion, perfect color & with stabilized image you can move from place to place with flawless tracking, the digital zoom extends to 20x with way less grainyness than typical a digital camera, always a good clear image & photos taken look exactly like what is seen. Batteries arre rechargable & last for several hours of viewing. Photos go on a standard memory card for moving pictures/videos to other devices.
