My HP Probook is a bit old, had a 1.6 ghz Celeron processor and I wanted to breathe some new life into it, so I got this processor. It was easy to install, 5 screws in total and some cooling pase. The die size was about double that of the Celeron, but the original cooler manages to keep it at about 50°C at normal use and about 75-80°C at load. Expect an increase in fan speed if you go from lesser processor to this, but not that much in my case. Don't install graphics drive from HP. Get it directly from Intel. Was able to run Rocket League at an acceptable frame rate. All in all I'm super happy.

I upgraded a laptop to an SSD, 8Gb RAM and this chip- and using measurements- it is over 5 times faster at certain tasks- than previously. It is particularly good at encoding video- and even its graphics chip is clocked significantly higher than the i3 which it replaced. The only downside to all of this- is additional heat. If your current laptop is running hot- you're going to have to look at replacing the fan and/or other measures to try and better cool it. Mine is running hot (at 85 degrees under load)- which apparently is within expected operational tolerances- however- its a bit beyond the regular cooling that came with my laptop (I've used an upgraded Arctic cooling fan which is doing a far better job than stock). Its a pretty easy upgrade- just remember to loosen the lock on the processor bed before trying to take the old processor out- and make damn sure you have no bent pins etc). Whether its worthwhile as an upgrade or not- depends entirely on price- if you're going over a certain price point- you'd probably be better off getting a new laptop instead (or indeed a second hand one of a more recent vintage).Read full review

Incredible Performance from an inexpensive chip. My old reliable laptop needed more performance and having Intels HM65 chipset, it was time for a much needed performance upgrade. Beware as installation for this project requires a bit of time, especially for inexperienced people. Prepare to remove screws and have an anti static wrist kit. Before you Start taking everything off, update your computers drivers and your bios as well. Since this is a hefty processor, Cooling will be an issue and a clean of your pcs internal components is a must. for thermal paste i Recommend Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and this will lead you to have regular temps of 38-43 degrees, and more heavy usage will get to 60 degrees all thanks to this premium paste. For maximum performance, upgrade the laptop to an SSD and enable its smart features, such as crucials MomentumCache for more performance, Or Rapid mode for Samsung SSD. Once finished upon boot go into your motherboards Setup menu, and enable it's "Turbo Boost" feature for even more performance. Read full review

This item works perfectly. The upgrade from an I3-2330m to this I7-2630QM shows some massive improvements in performance. Gaming also sees a massive boost with the use of the I7-2630QM. If your not use to gaming on a Console killing system upgrading your laptop with this CPU is recommended once you meet the requirements. This a great item at a reasonable cost.

Good cpu, exactly what I was expecting. The only problem I had is that one of the pin on the cpu was bent. Fortunatly I was able to detect it and fix it before installing it. Otherwise that small problem could have become a big one. My only advise would be that everyone should inspect their cpu before installing it. It's not brand new, keep that in mind. I bought this one to replace the core i5 that was in my laptop to benefit more cores/threads.
