This is a great saw, perfect for a homeowner who heats with wood or makes a living cutting trees. I find this and a 20" bar almost perfect for bucking and limbing, and because I don't have to stoop as much as an 18" bar. This combo works felling trees under 2 ft in diameter. I have a 28" bar and skip-tooth chain for bigger logs and the power head handles it fine, but it adds weight and screws up the balance for limbing. I have a Maxx chain grinder and found this engine can pull some mighty aggressive chains through hardwood. We run 3/8" pitch 'yellow' Stihl chain. The book calls for a 40 degree grinder head angle and zero offset from centerline, which cuts fine but dulls fast in dirty and frozen hardwood. We experimented with 60 degrees and a ten degree offset aft of the cutter with rakers @.035" and decided it was too aggressive because of vibration and kickback. We settled on a 50 degree grinder angle offset 10 degrees aft of the cutter and the same raker. This made the chain last much longer with little kickback. This saw shares a lot of parts with other models so finding wear parts like bars, chain and chain drives is easy. Engine parts like gaskets, rings, pistons and cylinders are relatively cheap from Baileys or other sources. For years I used a Stihl 029. It is lighter but not as powerful. A great farm and cabin saw. I also have a Stihl 046 which has more power than I need even with the 28" bar, but great for ripping planks and really big logs. The 046 is quite heavy and a bit much for limbing. The Husky fills the gap.Read full review
I experienced a lot of tree damage (over 1000 trees down on 400 plus acres) from a storm last May that produced winds of 90 m.p.h. My neighbor, who has worked in the logging business, said he'd cut and market the salvageable logs for railroad ties. We agreed on a percentage split of the market value. After six months of trimming, cutting, skidding, and hauling logs I noticed he was fast taking the life out of his older chainsaw. I could tell he had deep feelings for his old Husqvarna 372XP, that had given him many hours of dependable use and contributed towards his livelihood. I decided to get him a newer; but same model chainsaw. In that manner he would have one as a back-up, as well as any parts, chain bar, chain, etc. would also be interchangeable. I found a Husqvarna 372XP on eBay, that I thought looked to be in very good condition with little signs of hard use or abuse. I bid and won that saw. Upon receiving it I proceeded to check it out mechanically, and became very satisfied with my selection. I also won auctions for a new chainsaw bar and chain to go with the saw. Last month I presented that saw to my neighbor for all the work he's been doing. His reaction was like giving a child their first bicycle.Read full review
I purchased a 372xp in 2002 and have used it a huge amount since. I burn around 10 toyota tacoma truck loads of wood each year. I use this saw to cut about 90% of that wood. In the past few years my father-in-law and my dad have both gotten to old to run a big saw safely, so I had to step up and cut their wood as well. Currently, I'm cutting 35+ truck loads of wood each year to keep us all supplyed and So far I can say this is possibly the best money I have ever spent. In 12 years of serious cutting I have had the carb rebuilt once, replaced the vibration spring on the handle, replaced one of the screws in the bottom of the handle that holds it to the frame of the saw and thats it. I have wore out 4 bars and 17 chains. It came with a 20" and I bought a 28" for bigger stuff and it pulls the bigger bar with no noticable differance. I have a 24" on it now and I really like it. This saw is awesome in the performance area as well. It weighs around 13lbs but with the 24" bar its closer to 17lbs, Its cuts so fast with a sharp chain it will bury you with saw dust. If you are looking for a big saw with tons of power and something that will last for years, you have found it.Read full review
One of the very best saws ....Husqvarna delivers ! Power and weight..... perfect !
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
Considerable savings were realized by purchasing this reconditioned unit vs a new one. It starts quickly in any weather and has more power than other chainsaw's I have owned (IE: Craftsman, Poulan Pro). The saw cuts trees quickly and effectively. It idles smoothly and the automatic chain oiler has worked flawlessly. Parts are readily available at reasonable prices and I have already purchases 3 new factory chain's. I am looking forward to many years of trouble free wood cutting projects with this saw.
