Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best-selling in Flashes
Flash is in excellent condition. Works great and is a flash that I would recommend to anyone who owns a Minolta Maxxum Camera. It is easy to use and simple to attach. Uses 4 AA batteries and also simple to place inside. Actually the battery compartment is on the side of the Flash unit. Easy to slide open. The Flash has a test flash button and shows range, lighting and other options on the back of the unit. I have had this unit before and loved it very much. It does not eat up the batteries unless you constantly leave the flash on when not really needed. Use your own knowledge as to when you need the flash and when you don't. This 2800 AF Flash is a great buy!
The Vivitar 2800 is an older model with high voltage (200 volts) on the hot shoe. This was ok on old cameras with mechanical sync contacts, but can destroy the circuitry of modern digital cameras. Some cameras can handle it fine. Check the specs on your camera before mounting this in the hot shoe. Or use it with an off-camera slave trigger that is rated for 200+ volts. Or buy a Wein Safe-Sync (but it's hard to justify $47 for a safe-sync when the strobe only costs $15). I bought two of these strobes and I am working on an optically-isolated modification to make them safe for all cameras. The strobe has a thyristor exposure control circuit with two ranges so that you don't have to keep changing your aperture manually when the subject distance changes. Just set the aperture according to the slide calculator on the back of the unit. There is a popular movement for use of smaller hot shoe flashes off-camera. (See the Strobist blog by David Hobby http://strobist.blogspot.com). The Vivitar 2800 is a great little strobe for this kind of use.Read full review
Flash works great on film SLR. Recycle time is about 5-6 seconds. Longer than the newer digital flashes, but good for a film SLR. Unit was in excellent condition. Just what I needed for a complete system again. Vivitar is a time tested product.

Although I have several Digital and DSLR cameras, I still enjoy taking pictures the old fashion way. I have an old 35 mm film camera. The flash that I have used for years, finally failed. We could not find a new replacement. Purchased this used on Ebay. The flash works perfectly.. Put in 2 batteries, placed it on the hotshoe, hit the shutter release, and off it went.
