  • An excellent book on the Master of Portraiture

Sir Antony van Dyck is acknowledged to have been the most influential portrait painter to ever have practised in Britain. A child prodigy, he left the studio of Rubens and quickly gained a reputation as a portraitist who could produce elegant photo-realistic portrait's in a mannerist style. Brown's book details the life and development of van Dyck, with analysis of his methods and materials, and includes illustrations of his work, many of which are in full colour. A very good book which provides a broad introduction to the Master of mannerist portraiture.
