This is an awesome movie about conditions in the garment sweat shops in New York City and the garment unions attempt to organize back when clothes were still actually made in America. Lee J Cobb, as always, gives an outstanding performance as the owner of a fashion house fighting union organization. The only way he can stop the union is to bring in organized crime to whom he makes monthly payments to keep out the union. The only problem is, the money he pays to stop the union is just about what it would cost him for the added benefits and scale salary of his workers. We learn its more about him keeping control over the business he started. But things take an ugly turn when his son comes home and gets brought into the business and does not like what is happening. I don't want to give away the surprises, but its thoroughly enjoyable. Also, remember that when this move was made back in the 50's things like this really happened at the time.Read full review
