as a lover of any film that is about creepy towns and villages, this one fits the bill perfectly. Avery tight knit community on the island of Balfe are shielding some of the inhabitants from prying eyes because they are being struck down by some maddening disease. noone knows what is causing it and a Dr. Shaw, a leading scientist is sent to investigate what is happening on the island. The villagers are very wary of him and very unfriendly, but he teams up with a teacher who sets out to help him. I loved the atmosphere of the film, even thought it is somewhat dated now. The villagers were creepy and set in their ways. Outsiders were not welcome and inbreeding is rife. I throughly enjoyed this film and if there was a remake of it i would buy that as well.

  • Doomwatch DVD 2003.

This Movie is a little ahead of its time. The story is about a small island to the West of Scotland where the inhabitants are slowly becoming deformed, and they don't know what the reason is.Ian Bannen plays a Specialist Engineer who visits the Island to try and find out wht is happening. Once he arrives he is greeted with great suspicion and even finds it nearly impossible to find a room for the night. As his investigations continue, and strange things happen with the locals he is convinced that radicative waste released into the sea is responsible. In time this is found to be correct as the fish the locals eat has been contaminated by the waste. He meets the local school teacher (Judy Geeson) who is also initially supicious, but before long she agrees to help him convince the locals that ...

  • Doomwatch Gloomwatch

A small fishing village starts to hide its inhabitants when they display neanderthal tendencies (dragging their women off by the hair, fighting dinosaurs, etc), so the scientists send in their top man to sort them out! Okay, I bought this film because I've got a thing for Ian Bannen, but it's not a quality film - it did make me laugh, but I don't think it was supposed to. Full of villagers saying things like "be very afeared" and men in white coats looking at enormous computers that go "whir buzz whir". It's the sort of film that should be watched when drunk and with your mates with you as it might just be a classic! Ian Bannen is lovely, although a bit old for the part with his suspiciously full head of rich brown hair, and it's certainly fun to see a young Pat Butcher in a small role ...
