Diamond in the Rough
I had not read a book on the diamond trade since my college days when I stumbled upon a biography of Ernest Oppenheimer, so I purchased this book. It was my first book of the summer and quite exciting. Mr. Frost has delivered an unpparalled look into the mysterious world of diamonds through the eyes of the geologist and diamond entrepreneurs that carved their domains out of hard work, luck, and sheer determination. This book takes you from the early days of DeBeers up to the retaking of the Diamond markets by India after practically a 200 year hiatus from the status of king of the hill...or pipe as it were. If you like adventure, diamonds, and are looking for a keen insight into all aspects of the trade and how it is controlled by a genteele band of cutthroats, then this book is for ... This book is an excellent read for novice and geologist alike! Well written, fast paced with very interesting facts and presentations. You'll love the details and end up cheering for the underdogs who take on the old establishment. It will fill your sails with the wind to go mineral exploring on your own. Found it hard to put down and put it on my friends "must read" list. Destine to become a modern marketing history classic for study. KUDOS!This book is an excellent read for novice and geologist alike! Well written, fast paced with very interesting facts and presentations.
