    Nice vintage radio

    Radio is in very good physical condition. No complaints about what it looks like. It just needs some cleaning up which I did. Some of the controls need attention because they do not respond unless you play with them. I think they need contact cleaner. Otherwise very pleased with this radio.

    Vintage Panasonic RF 1080 still Speaks with Authority

    I had one of these in the mid 70s when I was in grad school. The RF 1080 is a solid 3 band radio covering AM FM and PSB transmissions. While many first-responder agencies have migrated to digital bands in the 800 range, the RF 1080 covers the NOAA weather band, and if you know what to adjust it can bring in 2 meter ham operators. Many rural-county sheriff, fire and emergency services still use channels in the 148 - 174 mhz range which can be received by this set in a fully-stock alignment. It has no chips on its circuit board, has analog tuning, and uses discrete mid 70s solid state technology. This means if there's a problem a technically-oriented user can get out the multimeter, the soldering iron, and in many cases can doctor it back to health.
