Between 1967 through 1972, CALLAN established itself as one of the most successful series in the history of British television. Edward Woodward starred as David Callan, a top SIS agent who was forced into retirement after years of killing had taken a toll on his nerves. This feature film remakes the first episode of the television series where Callan is contacted by his former boss and told that his retirement will be revoked if he liquidates a German businessman named Schneider. Callan, finding that he has grown a conscience, refuses to make the hit until he discovers why Schneider is being killed, and questions whether he really wants to return to his old profession.

One of the good things about eBay is that you can try and find anything from your past and revive memories. In my case, I found a dvd copy of the film Callan (a follow on from the tv series that I religiously watched as a younger man) Watching the movie again after all these years made me realise how films and filming techniques have evolved. The film was good - but the tv series (at least my memories of it) was better. Now if I could only find where to get a copy of the tv series... back to checking the netOne of the good things about eBay is that you can try and find anything from your past and revive memories. After hearing of Edward Woodwards death me and my wife was talking about what films and tv series he had been in, and had stared. I remarked that as a young man i enjoyed the series callan, and tried to think of the names of the characters in the drama,gave up, and so decided to find a film or series on ebay.

This film was made several years after the tv series and is based on the first episode. tv spin off films are often disappointing, but I think this one is exellent. Edward Woodward gives a terrific performance as the assassin Callan, managing to make this most unsympathetic character rather likeable, good support too from Russel Hunter as his smelly sidekick Lonely. This is a fine thriller which stands up well today!This film was made several years after the tv series and is based on the first episode. tv spin off films are often disappointing, but I think this one is exellent. This was a step back in time watching an good old fashioned film on par with the sweeny and professionals. This film was made into a series which ran for 5 years so was a classic of the early 70s. They don't make programmes like they used to, very entertaining and educational if you try naming all the different cars you see throughout the programme. High recommend it.
