Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best-selling in Scanners
I've used lots of scanners and I bought this one mostly for it's ability to do negatives and slides. I personally scanned over 5,000 slides with this scanner and it has gone the distance and is still going! I just purchased another one because I wanted a fresh new & unscratched screen again. I am a perfectionist and the scratches though not effecting the image all that much were getting to me. Scanned images whether pictures, slides or negatives, turn out sharp & clear.

A very good scanner that I have used for past week as it has replaced my 2400U. Scanning is faster and results seem very good as using this scanner allows zooming in on detail in negatives. Scanning slides and colour film is slow if all that is needed is a general scan copy so I use my wonderful "ION-PICS 2 SD" which can knock out 100 slides per hour @ nominal 10MPix/2500dpi. So this type of film scanner is for special use and would drive a casual user nuts. To me this is an essential tool and well worth the money. I am also pleased that it can work with Windows 8.1 in collusion with my faithfull workhorse photo editor "Microsoft Digital Image" which can still be found on eBay.
I have to run this scanner with an older computer running OS 10.5.8 on a Mac. But, once I switched to the older computer with older software, the installation was easy and it runs great through Photoshop. It's a twain scanner, so you need to be able to set up the twain driver in the plug-ins for Photoshop. Then you can use File Import Canoscan 8600F in the menu and there you go. It pulls up the Canon software window. You have lots of choices in there, but I'm still working on why it won't scan 16 bit when set up in the preferences. I am also using an Epson 4990 scanner and they both work fine, but I kind of prefer the built-in diffusion with the upper light on the Canon AND the lack of warm up time for the Canon. The Epson wants to warm up the light and that takes waiting time. Scan times are comparable, say six minutes for a 2400ppi scan from a B&W 6x7 negative. I use a sheet of translucent mylar above the Epson negative carrier to diffuse the upper light. It yields a much better tonal range. Sharpness seems good, but test. I got the ANR glass for either set up and that helps hold the negs flat. Canon scanner is much lighter and has a more stylish design. Buttons may not work since no current software updates, but again, no problem with older system software to scan through Photoshop and apparently Elements might work too. I actually prefer the Canon software in Advanced mode, just seems more logical. If you use an Epson, make sure you download the professional level software to gain access to important settings, like levels. I must say the auto button works well though too sometimes, just depends on your negatives.Read full review

I bought this scanner because I have a lot of old photos to add to iPhoto. Consumers Report said it was the top of the photo scanner list. They didn't lie. I use an iMac and the resolution on old photos is spectacular. Literally no loss of resolution and no grainy-ness or yellowing you see on cheap scanners. It has easy buttons on the scanner so you don't need to get into the app to scan or copy. Cons- It's a bit large and takes up space on your work station.
I had a canon 8400 and the power supply died. This one was one up newer model. It arrived well packaged and operates exactly as my old one. It has more resolution and functions very well for me. I scan mostly black and white copy, but when I scan a photo the output from it is superb. I am very well satisfied with this item. So far this is the best scanner I have owned of a total of three others, all canons. Sam
Purchased for a multitude of tasks, including scanning of old glass negatives. The machine works wonderfully and is really better than I had hoped in terms of speed, resolution and quality. Just very pleased. Thanks for the wonderful value.

Scanner came as scanner only with no cables, manuals or accessories. Obviously either my reading or the product description were inadequate. Can't operate it so can't comment on it.
