Product Information

Neil Simon's touching romantic comedy tells the story of a divorced ex-dancer (Marsha Norman), with a small daughter (Quinn Cummings) to support, who must start her life anew when her latest lover abandons her to pursue his career. Further complicating her life is the arrival of an egotistical actor (Richard Dreyfuss) who sublet her Manhattan apartment from her wayward boyfriend. Despite their initial hostility, this unlikely pair discovers romance as they help each other cope with the hardships of life in the big city.

    The story plot is realistic and hysterical. NYC, seriously only the melting pot of America. All of the actors play incredible roles and the exchanges are over the top. "Real World"

    My Best Romantic Movie Ever..

    Very moving. Have liked both Dreyfuss (American Graffitti) & Marsha Mason (Cinderella Liberty) since those movies. The remake really does NOT compare of this Goodbye Girl. I watch it over & over at times. Never tire of it. That is why I had to own it.

    70's style but timeless humor!

    I remembered this movie from the 80's and loved it. I thought Richard Dreyfuss was hilarious and the little girl was just too precocious and cute. I got the DVD and was not disappointed. The movie was as good as I remembered and although the clothes and styles are obviously dated (this was made in 1977 I believe) the humor and issues are timeless. There are some great lines from this movie, one of my favorites being "because of a mentally arthritic director, I'm about the to play the second greatest role in the history of the English speaking theater like a double order of fresh California fruit salad!". Very funny and touching. Recommend.

    Great romantic comedy that you just can’t find anymore. The performances are wonderful and the lines are snappy and so funny! A real classic that everyone can watch. A million times better than the movies of today.

    Wonderful Movie

    This is by all means a wonderful performance by both staring actors Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason. Mason is the typical woman that has been in a bad relationship... Burned numerous times and being a single mother, she is scared of falling in love. And I believe she plays the part VERY well. Her boyfriend left her and her daughter subleasing their appartment for the next three months to another actor but one of whom neiher know (Dreyfuss). This man is very understanding and kind towards the two even though Mason's character is unbelievably rude towards him. After a few weeks of living together the two become attracted to one another... Mason is fighting the feeling while Dreyfuss is embracing it... This is a marvelous tale but when you add in Richard Dreyfuss and his upbeat comic, ...
