I rarely give a five star review, so you can take it this is something special Julia Walters always brings much of her own personally to a part. In this case that isn't a problem. She is totally convincing as headmistress. You can easily believe that she has all confidence and inginuity to get the job done. The best performance I think goes to Tony Slatery. He is excellent as the leader of the disgruntled teachers who are determined to resist the wind of change. Whilst this is based on a true story it isn't entirely real. There were no long term failures shown amongst the pupils and teachers. That reduced the overall credibility and impact as a history piece, but it is good entertaining drama. St Georges serves as a reminder that every school can be turned around with enough determination. We see that the sacrifices of Philip Lawrence were not in vain. You will not be sorry if you buy this film. Its a great watch.Read full review
I like this film because it shows that bad can be turned into good. A true story starring one of my favourite actresses, Julie Walters. I bought this dvd because i remember seeing it when it was first released and i wanted it in my collection.
I think Julie Walters is a very under rated actress. Whatever she stars in she is a hit. This drama is based on a true story about a school which is full of badly behaved pupils and is about to be shut down, she is the headmistress, once again she plays a fantastic part.
Good story about a UK school which will be closed unless there are some major reforms. A conscientious Headmaster enters to reinvigorate the lawless school, into a state of being accepting learning for their all and society's good. They are all under a time restraint, and we feel we are there with the school "characters" as they change from unruly egotistical loners into a good upright society. This is an excellent movie, the characters are very well portrayed. The movie is a credit to the writer, director and the actors. Good movie for thinking people. - Ross (7.06.16)
