This is McNabb's first LP after leaving the Icicle Works with whom he had had top 10 chart success with "Love is a Wonderful Colour". McNabb is a great songwriter, singer and guitarist initially arising from the thriving Liverpool scene of the early 80s. Truth and Beauty has strong songs with great tunes and pop hooks to die for. In the follow up "Head Like A Rock" he indulged his Neil Young fantasies more, going as far as to hire the rhythm section of Crazy Horse (and getting a Mercury Prize nomination to boot). However, Truth and Beauty is more guitar-pop than rock and none the worse for that. Buy it and improve your day instantly.

This is Ian's first solo album after the Icicle Works finally split, dating from 1993. Every single track on this album stands up for itself and I love them all. Highlights for me are the beautifully crafted Truth & Beauty and the magnificent final track Presence of the One which I rate as one of the best songs of all time. The lyrics on it are poetic and mystical, I love the way a new element of instrumentation is added between each verse and I think Ian's voice is subtle yet magnificent on this song. Don't miss this!
Ian MCnabb A true hero. Englands answer to Neil Young !. You have to wonder why the artist never features on Jools. Maybe this will be the year of a break through. We took part in the My SApace tour and Ian played in the living room, yes the living room. A grat incentive to purchase the back catalogue.
An excellent, upbeat CD with plent of songs to sing along to. This is highly recommended for anyones CD collection.......underated artist with bags of talent for writing and performing!
