Panasonic Lumix FZ-50 was Panasonic flagship ultra-zoom prosumer digital camera in 2006. Some features, rarely found on newer (non-DSLR!) cameras and important to me: very effective optical image stabilization, non-extending zoom lens (lens can accept 55 mm filters), very fast (startup is under one second), TTL flash hot-shoe, excellent handling (big size and a very solid feel - unlike some users, I prefer larger cameras), full control (very effective user interface for manual shooting modes and especially manual focus and ZOOM rings), high-quality Leica optics, electronic viewfinder and flip down lcd screen and very good battery life. I don't like higher noise levels on higher ISO settings. I have used Lumix FZ (and other brands, as well) cameras for many years, but FZ50 is something special!Read full review
These cameras cover 35-420mm with a fantastic lens, which is of fixed barrel design with the optics moving internally. Zoom is manual, just like a dSLR, and the focus can be manual, just like a dSLR, or automatic. Zoom and focus are by rings on the lens barrel. The viewfinder and articulated screen are small and low resolution compared to current technology but adequate. There are thumbwheels at the front and back right hand corners, which can be set to give direct adjustment, in Aperture Priority for example, to aperture and +/- EV compensation. The sensor is 10MP and produces great IQ but is limited effectively to ISO100 in JPEG and ISO200 in RAW, above this there's increasing noise/processing loss of clarity. JPEG colour rendition is fantastic and the lens at f2.8-3.7 is a peach. 55mm filters can be attached directly to the lens barrel I am a member of the dpreview.com Panasonic forum because I have an LX5, FZ150 and TZ30 (having sold all my Canon dSLR kit). Several members still have an FZ50, now over 5 years old, and rave about its handling / controls. So, I bought one on eBay, which works very well but was slightly tatty. I love the handling of the camera so much I wanted to get another in pristine condition. I managed to get this black one in immaculate condition. When light is good, I use the Silver one without concern and the black one when there is no risk of rain, etc.Read full review
Friendly staff - standard shipping time - great camera, however the actual LCD screen quality isn't the greatest...you can see the pixels however it does print very good pictures. I would recommend this camera if you are looking for high performance on a budget or new to photography and buying your first camera like me.

THE FZ50 AND THE FZ30 WERE BOTH TOP QUALITY FLAGSHIP CAMERAS,A LITTLE OLD NOW,BUT DONT BE PUT OFF BY THAT. THE POWERFUL LEICA LENS ENSURES THAT THEIR IMAGE QUALITY IS SUPERB AND FAR BETTER THAN SOME MUCH NEWER BRIDGE CAMERAS. GRAB ONE WHILE YOU CAN..WELL WORTH IT.

Hi. Makes a pleasant change from carrying a heavy load of kit around. Results very good so far. I had one of these previously & that was very good. Excellent value, nothing to dislike about it. just a good camera without any gimics.
