One for a Sci-fi fan collection
I was surprised by this movie when a first saw it. If you are a Sci-fi fan, you will likely enjoy this movie. I though the story was well delineated, concise and logically executed. Characters were lightly developed, but that didn't prevent you from liking them. Picture quality was pretty cool. It was a very dark movie, and I did not find detail lacking. Colors were intentionally muted, except for red, especially blood. Special effects were old-school, so if you find them fake, it's because the filmmakers were using decades old technology. Think of the early Star Wars films. This is touched upon in the extras. The lossless audio track was lively, encompassing and detailed. A good evenings etertainment, DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Set in a Steam Punk future this tale of a small group of heroes out to save the day is a winner. Fantastic special effects coupled with beautiful art direction and cinematography make it a visual if unsettling feast. The acting is first rate, Thomas Jane as the reluctant hero, Ron Perlman as the true believer, and John Malkovich as the big boss, and the supporting cast are all excellent. The only problem with this 2 disk set s the sound on the bonus disk, it is very spotty, so you always have your thumb on the volume control.
