I was a bit sceptical about apples move towards replacing all the Legacy ports with thunderbolt however once you use this little gadget you see it makes a lot of sense. You can just leave it connected to the monitor and plug in when the laptop is on the desk. I'm getting some use out of an old monitor which I've connected up to the DVI output. The MacBook does run a bit warmer so I try to avoid using it for video in the interests of not overheating the graphics card. Have had one or two instances of the DVI connection dropping out however I believe this is not that unusual if you sleep/ wake the screen momentarily it fixes itself. I've tested HDMI output as well which works a treat. As per the instructions you cannot use more than one output at a time if you try it won't work.
