  • All in all a good unit, power tracks are chunky, and connections are well marked. Needs feet.

Opto Isolated 5V relay (dual). When in isolated mode you need an additional 5 V supply, but as a relay offers isolation its a bit overkill. Recommend just running it off the micro PSU. The coil has a suppression diode that limits the voltage spike back to the micro. (DC field collapsing producing a back EMF) This has the effect of slowing the relay down on de-energisation, if you are controlling DC on the main contacts, remove the diode and and add a resistor, this still suppresses the voltage spike and allows the relay to open quicker. (around 300ohms for this 5v coil) If you are controlling a DC motor then add capacitive suppression at the motor. If you are controlling a DC coil (perhaps a valve) then add a suppression diode/resistor at that coil as well. Its the contacts that will fail ...

  • Works fine but no Circuit diag.

Note that Optical isolation you MUST remove the jumper and provide separate power supplies for relay coil and trigger. Do google search "jumper-function-on-relay-modules stackexchange" to get circuit diag. I note the many comments that these relays fail after a while. I have not used long enough to test but I wonder if using a 5V trigger vcc (the default if you do not remove the jumper) is the cause. I am using 3.3V.

  • Great relay board to use with Raspberry Pi

Very statisfied with this relay unit with my 3D printer setup and Raspberry Pi 3. It's safe for Pi.

  • Unsuitable for Raspberry Pi!

This can't be used with Raspberry PI. It needs 5V, but the RPI's GPIO supports only 3.3V only.
