We write software for organizing and storing electronic parts for engineers. We have a number of black label printers using thermal transfer and direct thermal. The idea was to add color to labels so it was easy find caps, resistors, diodes and such. Last thing a user wants to do I mess up the loading of a Pick and Place machine. We tried a lower cost Primera but it did not support sharing with multiple users. The C3500 had am Ethernet interface so it shares perfectly. The material we currently use is a BOPP plastic thermal printer film, it had a little problem drying quickly as Mylar film is non-absorbent. We turned down the ink density and it worked ok. We will play with different medias in the future. You can't beat thermal transfer for rich dark instant dry bar codes but the inkjet is ok and the colors just super. We have out own desktop app called PartSync (Google it) where there is support for a number of different printer using standard Windows Printer Drivers, the C3500 worked perfectly which I can't say about some other printers. Mechanically it is very robust. The air flow shutters baffled me a little at first but it holds our materials well, great idea. At power off it covers the print head which is REALLY GOOD. It holds large rolls without much concern for the core diameter. So this is definitely a keeper, really nice little printer. As you look at the picture the black bars seem light but they scan as well as any other media. We get faster drying and use less ink with the density turned as low as possible. The sample media that came with the units looks much better. But for us this is great.Read full review
