It does all I need it it to do. A dedicated music player capable of browsing by the usual categories (artist, album, genre etc.). It also reads M3U playlists which is handy. The big plus is that it connects to a PC as a mass storage device so music files can be drag and dropped without the need for iTunes or similar software. A big bonus for Linux users. I also like the fact that it stores the songs on a SD card which can be removed and plugged directly into a PC if needed. The only thing real negative thing is that even on the largest setting, the writing on the screen is a bit too small for my liking. But that is liveable with. Also it doesn't connect to my Ford Focus's Bluetooth- I read somewhere that it doesn't like variable coded Bluetooth. But that's not a big deal for me. To get the best out of it, you may need to tweek a few settings (keylock mode, theme etc.) but overall, once that's done I was well impressed. I used to be a great fan of the basic ipod classic and this is every bit as good in my opinion and with the added benefit of not being at the mercy of large corporations such as Apple. I've only had it 3 weeks weeks but so far I'm very happy with the product. UPDATE I've now had it a few more weeks and unfortunately have found a couple more negative points. Firstly, When browsing music by category, if you play a song then press certain buttons, the screen goes blank and none of the buttons then work. This is obviously a firmware fault, which should be fixed. However, a few updates later and the problem still persists even though Fiio say it's fixed. I don't find this too bothersome as I usually browse by folder rather than categories or more often than not, use playlists- which brings me to my biggest complaints. It would appear that, by design, when a playlist is shuffled, you can't use the 'previous track' button to listen to the previous track. It just jumps to another random song. But the most infuriating complaint is that when a playlist is being shuffled, if the unit turns off, it totally forgets what it has played. With my ipod I could work my way through a shuffled playlist over a few nights whilst I went to sleep. With the Fiio, I just keep hearing the same tracks again and again because it won't remember what it played the previous night. And this is REALLY annoying when I use it whilst I'm doing a spot of DIY at home, pause it whilst doing something noisy, then it powers down to save the battery and then resets the playlist when I wake it up again. VERY disappointing. I hope they fix that because it is making it pretty much useless for me.Read full review

For the price really there is no competition. PROS - Support for Lossless music formats - MicroSD up to 256gb - Bluetooth support, and even dual one - General design and construction is quite good CONS - The more music the SD holds, the processor begins to struggle to keep up. - The touch wheel is quite precise but when you want to go through thousand of songs, the speed isnt quite up to the needs, takes quite a while to do it. - The screen is nothing to brag about, but is ok. If thats your concern, you can look for the more expensive x3 or x5. If the music is the top priority this wont matter.

Solid piece of kit. Easy to load. Not as fancy as an IPOD, screen is lower res than we are now used to. Loaded my entire music collection on to it so able to hide/dispose of loads of CD's which have been cluttering up my house. Plays most files but not some protected tracks and I can't convert them to MP3, so not a total solution. Bluetooth works but can be temperamental connecting. I don't know whether it's the FiiO or my music system. Probably not HiFi but who sits and listens to music now. MP3 standard is perfect for my needs.
