Good OE unit, despite inherent design flaws
Compared to the competition, the Motorcraft FA-1778 engine air filter is superior, mainly because of the blue waterproof membrane. If Ford diesel truck forums are to be believed, it's said that this is one of the best factory filters in terms of both flow and filtration. When compared to its predecessors and successors, the FA-1778 is still a flawed design straight from factory: too expensive (it's good value because you didn't spend $$$ on overpriced "cold air intake" kits), too big (also taking much more room in storage and, ultimately, the landfill when the used unit needs to be disposed of), and too cumbersome to remove. You're basically throwing away part of the airbox and installing a new piece. You can gauge your mechanical skills by how quick and how much air intake ducting you ... I'm currently mid-level (which varies by truck. From experience, the '04 has more air duct parts, while the '06 is a little more simplified. I have no experience with the uniqueness of the '03s). It's not intuitively user-friendly, particularly with novices. These are the reasons why it's 4 stars, despite being a tough, well built unit. Oh, one more thing: you will lose the clamps. They're unique to the 6.0. Have a couple in storage, just in case: 6C2Z-9628-AA
