However, the other elements radically differ as the four participants and/or witnesses relate their own stories (with the dead man, eerily enough, speaking through a medium). As each account is revealed, what seemed black and white turns to various hues of gray, leading to surprising--and confounding--relevations.A landmark of international cinema, RASHOMON won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1951, bringing both Kurosawa--and Japanese film in general--to the attention of Western audiences. From the rain-soaked opening sequence to its moving conclusion, the film is a stunning examination of truth and human nature.     Classic cinema

    I had not heard of this film until recently though it is a classic. Flashbacks are used to tell the story of the various characters and, in so doing, examine the nature of truth. As we see the four different views of the same event played out, we are asked to consider the question of what is the truth. This is an entertaining film for the casual viewer but an absolute must see for anyone who wants an understanding of the progression of film as an art form.

    Celluloid brain food for the God's

    I feel so honored and blessed to have the opportunity to see such a master piece in this day and age of lost film craftsmanship. Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa we're destined to work together, as this film has no rival to this day. The film shows how every human being can see the same, but cannot seem to get the same story of events exactly as it happened. Thank you Mr. Kurosawa

    happy with service but not the DVD itself

    happy to get the DVD but this was a 4:3 version of the film that was shot ON FILM aka the original widescreen. Bummed because this is a very important film and I wish I'd seen it as it was filmed.

    Great epic movie
