Hollywood, 1950. When David Merrill -- one of Hollywood's top directors -- returns from a recuperative European hiatus, he finds himself in a tinsel town he no longer recognizes.     The Pressure of Fear

    "Guilty by Suspicion" is an excellent movie about the McCarthy era in Hollywood. It centers around the battle a Hollywood director faced when he was suspected of having Communist ties. As the movie progresses, you see how actors, writers and directors were pressured into revealing the names of friends and co-workers suspected of being communists or communist sympathizers, when they were ordinary Americans with no communist sympathies whatsoever, or because they had attended a communist rally out of curiosity years before. The targeted victims were dragged before the McCarthy panel of Inquiry and interrogated, often falsely accused, and were 'guilty by suspicion' rather than by hard evidence.     Hollywood Socialists Hypocrites Now

    Hard to get past Deniro. He's such a flaming liberal, I kept thinking how many accused of being Communists back then may have been, and how many are socialists/communists hypocrites. Good acting, but wouldn't have missed much if I never watched it.

    This is an excellent well film of the FBI probe into communistic accusations against some of the motion picture industries actors, directors, etc, and the subsequent banning of these people for many years A Great Movie DeNiro is great as always.
