    clearing away the cobwebs

this is a TOTALLY enchanting account of who did what and the politics of same, re: the ancient motown players. i felt the same way watching this that i felt while watching 'the wrecking crew' DVD. ancient players receiving their LONG OVERDUE just due !! so many of the same people playing on SO MANY "hit" records...(where one THOUGHT it was the actual original band !!) many great stories, providing pretty total enchantment! TOO BAD !! many of these people have died before, during! , or after) the production of this. -particularly sad when motown moved to LA, although motown had sort of "shot its' load" by that time anyway...nevertheless, MANY deserving musicians were left "in limbo"... i suppose, however; motown technically did not OWE them ANYTHING! -still, i found it really SAD !! , ...

  • The True Untold Story of the Motown Sound.

After watching this documentary I felt as if I had gained a new fresh perspective on the Motown sound. I now understand what the sound really meant, how it was deliberate and fascinating. I feel as if I have a family I never knew. If you love the Motown music and you hear this story, it is truly heart warming, bittersweet. But it definitely defines the value of the "sound". I was not disappointed.

  • Entertaining as well as educational for any music fan

If you ever thought that Marvin Gaye-Stevie Wonder-The Temptations Dianna Ross and the Supremes and many more Motown greats had their own bands....think again, The Funk Brothers played on all their songs at Motown. This DVD pays homage to the greats like Earl White and James Jameson who were just a part of the Funk Brothers. This is outstanding for any Motown fan weather you know who the Funk Brothers were or especially if you did not.

  • MoTown music and the bands

Both movies are great. Learn who the people were that produced the music called Motown. The life of The Temptations is a wonderful story on how they started, and the way their lives ended. With only one still performing. Mr Otis Williams, an amazing man

  • Standing In The Shadows Of Motown Gives Credit Where Credit Is Overdue

This Rockumentary would never have happened if it were not for the persistence of Paul Justman, and Alan Slutsky. A lot of us have heard darn near every 50's - '70's Motown record ever made.....but like the dynamite question was asked of several patrons in a Detroit record shop who had knowledge of Motown "...you know who the band was that played on ALL those hits?" Everyone had heard of the singers or the groups, but not the actual people who played the music: The Funk Brothers. Sad thing was, when Motown left Detroit in '71, these players were told by a note on the studio door: " Mowtown is moving to Los Angeles, There will be no further studio work" Just like that. As Martha Reeves said:"..no advance warning, no notice, no nothing. But they were Motown, they could do what they wanted." ...
