About this product

Product Information

As THE BOURNE IDENTITY begins, a man who may or may not be Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is found floating in the Mediterranean Sea and is hauled onto a fishing boat. When the ship's doctor examines the unconscious castaway, he discovers two bullet wounds and an implanted device that displays a Swiss bank account number. With nothing but this code, the amnesiac Bourne travels to Zurich and gains access to a safe-deposit box containing a gun, thousands of dollars in various currencies, and valid passports from numerous countries--each listing a different identity. Within minutes, Bourne is on the run from a seemingly ever-present agency, relying on language and fighting skills he didn't even know he possessed. Offering $20,000 for a ride to Paris, Bourne gains the reluctant help of the nomadic Marie (Franka Potente). Meanwhile, the shadowy organization, headed by a tough-talking bureaucrat (Chris Cooper), sends numerous assassins (including the Professor, played by Clive Owen) after Bourne and Marie. As their situation grows more perilous, the two strangers struggle to find out who Bourne really is and why they are being hunted.

Doug Liman's adaptation of Robert Ludlum's best-selling novel is a remarkable exercise in straightforward storytelling, with the director wisely choosing to focus on Bourne and his quest for identity. The fight sequences are thrilling, but never overly glamorized, and the film's pacing is engaging and deliberate. Damon, who displays genuine bewilderment as his character discovers his almost-superhuman abilities, anchors the proceedings with the subtle charm of an unlikely action hero. Potente also shines as Bourne's road companion, a savvy woman who slowly builds an utterly believable relationship with the confused man. Bearing distinct affinity for its European setting and classic Hollywood suspense films, THE BOURNE IDENTITY succeeds as an unusually smart character-driven thriller.

  • The Bourne Identity

Based on a book by Robert Ludlum, Excellent interpretation of the book, a movie with great production values makes this thriller ‘a one to watch’ for action fans. Speaking with ‘hindsight’ this is a great start to a three film franchise. Plot summary: Some fishermen pull a body of a man from the sea, even though he has two bullet holes in him, he is alive, and unfortunately he cannot remember who he is. During the removal of the bullets an implant is discovered containing the number of a Swiss bank account. Once healed the young man goes to Zurich accesses the account and discovers his name is Jason Bourne, also within the deposit box is a large amount of cash and numerous passports with his picture on them. When confronted, his reflex reaction is to use his awesome martial arts ...

  • Not James Bond... fortunately for us

Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne in the 2002 «The Bourne Identity», based on the novel by Robert Ludlum. A man awakens without memory on a small fishing boat near France. He finds himself pursued by mysterious assassins and still not knowing who he is or why he's being chased. The plot is quite simple but consistent. The focus is entirely on Jason Bourne and how he is to deal with having no memory of his past and being hunted without knowing why. Next to Ronin, this is one of the best spy movies that out there. If you want something a bit different from the typical James Bond formula this movie might do it for you.

  • Awesome film

I feel Matt Damon is improving as an actor film after film. He is one of the few A list actors from whom you can be guaranteed a good performance in every film. This is a superb film that has a great plot. Lots of action in this. The plot has been thoughtfully prepared and I'm sure like me you will simply love this. Plot - Based very loosely on Robert Ludlum's novel, the Bourne Identity is the story of a man whose wounded body is discovered by fisherman who nurse him back to health. He can remember nothing and begins to try to rebuild his memory based on clues such as the Swiss bank account, the number of which, is implanted in his hip. He soon realizes that he is being hunted and takes off with Marie on a search to find out who he is and why he is being hunted.
