About this product

Product Information

From its first magnificent sentence, "In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing", to the last, "I am haunted by waters", A River Runs Through It is an American classic. Based on Norman Maclean's childhood experiences, the title novella has established itself as one of the most moving stories of our time; it captivates readers with vivid descriptions of life along Montana's Big Blackfoot River and its near magical blend of fly fishing with the troubling affections of the heart. The paperback edition is now available with an evocative new cover by acclaimed Montana painter Russell Chatham. "A masterpiece. . . . This is more than stunning fiction: It is a lyric record of a time and a life, shining with Maclean's special gift for calling the reader's attention to arts of all kinds--the arts that work in nature, in personality, in social intercourse, in fly-fishing."--Kenneth M. Pierce, Village Voice Norman Maclean (1902-90), woodsman, scholar, teacher, and storyteller, grew up in the Western Rocky Mountains of Montana and worked for many years in logging camps and for the United States Forestry Service before beginning his academic career. He retired from the University of Chicago in 1973.

The book was shipped promptly and arrived quickly. Very nicely packaged. I am pleased with the condition of the item and think the pricing was fair. I made an offer, but the seller did not counter my offer or send a decline notice. The seller did, however, send a message as to when the item was shipped.

    great story

I have a copy of the video of this story but I always wanted to read the book. I finally ordered it and read it while on a trip to Kauai. I am not much of a reader, I get bored quickly, but I just couldn't put this book down. Really great stories by a great author. Even though the movie is a wonderful story the book doesn't detract from that and adds a different slant. Plus the other two stories in the book are great too.

  • Great Find!

Stories based on actual events are often best stories. I grew with my mama telling her stories from the Great Depression & living on the banks of mighty Yadkin River in NC .So glad EBAY had this book-great find!

  • Strong writing

"A River Runs Through It" is an interesting allegory about family life & relationships during a more gracious time. It is well worth reading & taking your time as you read. There is some depth in the book that is worth savoring.
