A light and well designed basic printer.
HP builds well. Biggest issue is that the installation software offers wireless or usb but the printer doesn't have wi-fi. That led to wasted hours with the install. USB set up is a breeze and there is a dedicated HP Bluetooth dongle available for a reasonable price. It's portable with a beautiful leather carry case. HP ink cartridge prices are astronomical but their printers work with compatibles - you lose the ability to check ink levels with these. As the print head is part of the cartridges HP printers are a safer bet second hand. Those with a built in print head plus cheaper cartridges are more likely to be unserviceable due to dried inks. The HP H470 is an old design being a single function device. It stands the test of time. Works well with XP, W11 and OS-X Snow leopard though the ... HP builds well. Models defined by additional letters to indicate inclusion of bluetooth, wireless or battery. Additional info: Tried to install it on a desktop PC running XP Home SP3 and none of the software would install. It was OK in virtual XP running within Windows 11 though. After a marathon battle I forgot HP software and used the add printer method in XP Control Panel letting Windows do the job. If you choose HP mobile printer from the list of HP printers it will enable just black and white printing but if you choose Deskjet 990c you get a colour option too. At least it will print colour in Word now. HP support is unfortunately none existant for older printers. I found the tip about using the Deskjet 990c drivers in a very old HP support thread. Still very happy with the H470.

As good as new
Thought I might risk buying someone's problems. It arrived beautifully packed and with every sign of having been well kept. As my elderly laptop cannot now install a new printer it was vital to replace my HP with one identical to the old one , so my chances didn't seem high, but this is excellent.
