An uneven foray into folk-rock, but classic anyway
PP&M we’re surrounded by the Beatles and by folk-rock by 1966 when this was recorded. The next 2 albums largely departed from traditional acoustic guitar and bass, with mixed results. This recording has some of that folk rock, but is most successful in the tracks with the old formula. The Good Times We Had, Mon Vrai Destin, and Kisses Sweeter Than Wine are classics. Adding Dobro to Pack Up Your Sorrows was a master stroke. But Hammond organ etc on other tracks just detracts from their signature sound. A bit uneven, but with many splendid songs. B+ overall.
