In 1932, Vivi and the Ya-Yas were disqualified from a Shirley Temple look-alike contest for unladylike behaviour. Many years later, they're bucking 70 and still making waves. They persuade Vivi to send Sidda a scrapbook of girlhood momentoes entitled The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

  • GET THE AUDIO

The book is a fun read but Rebecca Wells is a true story teller and this is a story that is meant to be heard. If you can get this audio in good shape and at a fair price go ahead and buy with confidence. We ranked the Audio higher that the book. CHICK FLICK! We read the book, saw the movie but it is the AUDIO that wins the best format of this story. It is a great listen on a car ride because the actress performing this has a great voice that will transport you to another place- the Deep South and to life of being a close-knit group of girls that have grown into old women. If you have life long friends you will love this story because it will remind you of the days spent with girlfriends just experiencing life as it comes. It is also the story of a New York girl Sidda Lee Walker, who ...

  • Book Divine Secrets of the Ya-ya Sisterhood

I had read the book when it first came out in print and LOVED it. The themes and lessons were something I wanted to share with my sister in law, who has become the primary care giver for her mother. I plan to purchase more copies for others that I feel can benefit from the excellent reading as well as the way the book makes you realize that we all make mistakes. We do the best we can, with what we know at the time, and are given to work with. The way we react to that is the lesson to be learned from this book.

  • Memorable reading

As the sequel to "Little Alters Everywhere", this book takes you, the reader, inside yourself where you will recognize bits and pieces of your own history if you are a child of the 50's and 60's. It is extremely well written with superior character development. Rebecca Wells has a delightful talent in her ability to make you see, smell and feel everything around you as you read this book. Both Little Alters Everywhere and the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood are books that you will remember and carry the characters in your memory as if you know them.

  • Every Daughter Should Read It

Every daughter should read it; this is because generally as daughters we tend to see our mothers in two dimensions. Just mother, not person. Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood really gets you thinking about the person your mum is, and the history she had before you. But I also think that any child, male or female, could extract value from this reading experience. It really is about relationships with your parents, and what it means to grow up and get old and dream and other such related things. I would recommend it to anyone, unless you're feeling particularly fragile and overly emotional, in which case I might say save it for another day.
