Worth a try even for beginners.
Switched to a DE razor last year. Started with Old Bond Street shaving cream which is nice, but this soap makes a big difference. It is much nicer to work with. It isn't difficult to lather up which I'd read can be an issue with soap. You can easily increase or reduce the thickness of the lather. And even for someone with my questionable abilty at shaving it still allowed my razor to somehow magically shave closer than it did with shaving cream. I'm so pleased with the first attempt the last of the tub of cream will go to the back of a cupboard as a backup. It looks like it will be good value for money, lasting quite a while. Sandlewood is a nice non offensive smell too. I couldn't stretch to one in a nice wooden bowl but it just so happens to fit in a co-op hummus tub perfectly, albeit ... Expensive shaving soap
Good shaving soap but very expensive. Scent quite faint compared to the soft shaving cream of the same name. It will likely last longer than the original cream soap but it doesn’t smell very nice. I am surprised that Taylor would make this.

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood shaving soap.
This was my first experience of a premium shaving soap. I did a lot of research before I took the plunge, and I was not disappointed. I found it easy to lather, it produced a soft and slick and nick free shave. The scent is nice, but not overpowering. It is quite a hard puck of soap and has lasted me for about 3 months of daily shaving. I would happily recommend this soap to any wet shaver.

I’ve used this shaving soap for a few years and have been delighted with it since discovering it. The sandalwood scent is good but not overpowering. The soap is hard, gives a great lather and a lovely smooth shave. It is exactly what a good shaving soap is supposed to be. It lasts longer than most other shaving soaps I’ve used and I regard it as excellent value for money. I have a beard and use a straight razor (and, occasionally, a safety razor) for tidying up around the edges. Being a lazy person, I usually only shave every other day, but probably use the same amount of soap (per shave) as any other bloke. I’ve used many different shaving soaps over the years. That includes the cheapest one on the market and which used to be the only one available in many supermarkets. This Taylors ... Smooth soft shave
Taylors of Old Bond Street is the best of all the shaving soaps. It's gummy free and produces a soft smooth lather which helps your blade glide over your face neck and chin. I think it also protects the blade from wearing too quickly - so the blade emerges clean from the water and can be wiped dry (carefully) for another days use.
