About this product

Product Information

Discover this first installment of the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and "prepare to be hooked" ( Entertainment Weekly ). When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder--much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing--not even a smear of blood--to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know... Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

    Great action, real page turner!

Cassadaga Claremont has written a series here about demon slayers who protect the world from evil with their special powers. The Immortal Instruments series is every bit as good as the Harry Potter novels and I recommend it to anyone that enjoyed Harry Potter's world. I am reviewing this series because I thought my granddaughter might enjoy delving into this interesting world.

  • Light story with morale

The book is completely different than the movie that is based on this book but still worth reading. It is a story about young Clary Fairchild that in one day her life is completely turned upside-down. She realizes, she is a daughter of so called shadowhunter. Shadowhunters are "people" that fight with demons to keep people like us (called mundiens) safe. Yes. READ THE BOOK TO KNOW MORE YOU FILTHY ANIMAL!

  • Mortal Instruments = really really good!

City of bones, city of ashes, and city of glass are the three mortal instruments books. They are amazing!! I had been reading a lot of vampire books when i started these, and the shadow hunters are a nice break from them. The author really created a whole new hary-potter type (but more sinister) world. It took me just under one week to read all these three books because I could not put them down! I highly recommend them. They were recommended to me by a friend and then I recommended them to another friend... and we all became big fans right away. They are easy reads and every page is filled with action... it never gets boring. Read it!

  • This book is an absolute must-read-must-share-must-keep.

This is Book 1 of Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series, the book that introduced me to the author. This work caught my attention because of its setting -- MANHATTAN. To me, it was another character, a major player. Manhattan is totally my city, the place I chose to live in when I left my Jewel Box life in my own country. The characters were very engaging, their dialogue entertaining -- like listening to my nephews & nieces argue, discuss, squabble. I'm looking forward to becoming reacquainted with them in subsequent books. I was all the characters, feeling their frustrations, heartaches & triumphs. This story was pure escapism, a perfect melding of reality & fantasy.

  • It was early!?!?!

I actually can't believe it was earlier than the day it was expected for. I'm so happy that it arrived when it did. I thought that it was going to be bad quality or at least not as good but its perfect and better than what expected. I would totally recommend buying this book to any others trying to go into the shadow world.
