Still Life with Crows is fourth in the Pendergast series. It is not essential to read Relic, Reliquary, and Cabinet of Curiosities, before reading this novel, however, you will not understand Pendergast as well by starting with this title, and will be in the dark about his situation in New York with the character Wren. Pendergast comes to a small town, Medicine Creek, to vacation, as he puts it. He has a knack for showing up at bizarre crimes that involve unusual deaths of the victims. He is searching for clues to the whereabouts of his estranged, diabolical brother. The crimes in the first five novels do not relate to his brother, but it builds the reasoning behind Pendergast showing up at these strange crime sites. Pendergast recruits a troubled eighteen year old high school student who has a punk attitude, but sharp mind, and brave heart. With her help, Pendergast is able to solve the crime, and make reparation for the terrible deeds of a relative. He must work with a very reluctant police force that is not used to dealing with this sort of crime. There is usually a journalist in the novel who plays an important role in making the involved populace become scared, or speculative of the circumstances of the murder. The plot is busy, the characters are well developed, and the information which can be gleaned from the novel about historical, criminal, and psychological topics is plentiful. I purchased the novel to complete my reading of the Pendergast series, and was not disappointed. I recommend Still Life with Crows to anyone who is not squeamish, likes a mystery/crime novel, and like a suspenseful plot with interesting characters.Read full review
These two authors by themselves offer good stories. Together, they offer awesome stories! I highly recommend any of their books, but on my shelf for rereads are their books together featuring Agent Pendergast. They are the type of book you can not put down. They grab your attention and keep it till the very end. None of the books have any sections were you have to wade through stuff to get to the meat of the book. I can not wait for their new book out this summer. I am trying to get all the books in hardback due to how much I enjoy revisiting them or turning new readers on to them. These books have the right amount of detective novel and horror/suspense to satisfy most anyone.
Im not generally the type to read anything off the bestsellers list, but I borrowed the book Brimstone from my father. From that moment I was hooked. This is another great Pendergast novel, placed between The Cabinet of Curiousities and Brimstone. Intense, often gruesome, you'll be up all night. It takes an original idea or damn good writing to catch my attention and the have succeded. I wanted at least one of their books with a double autograph and the price was right.
I read everything these authors write, both as a team and individually.

I am never disappointed with Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child books. This is one of their earlier books and it is a great read. I couldn't put it down.

I thought this was a stellar entry into the "Pendergast" series. Absolutely and amazing read. Special Agent Pendergast was in top form, and the mystery itself kept me biting my nails and racking my brain all the way to the very last page. With this novel we get not only a superb twist with the end but also a surprise introduction to a new character! Read this one for sure! It is one of my favorites!!!
Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child together write the best novels. I am never disappointed. The FBI Agent Pendergast series is the best. There is just enough creepy supernatural to keep you guessing. This book is the fourth with Agent Pendergast and takes place in Kansas where he starts investigating a "strange" murder. The characters are so believable and everything is spun like a web drawing you in...a real page turner!!
Very good thriller and mystery.

WOW! I read this book in less than a week, These authors are great. I love the lead character, Pendergast. Gripping!
This is part of Preston/Child's fabulous "Pendergast" series. Now I will be able to read them all in sequence. I have done this with a few writers but never with this many titles. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do in with a good old fashion hard-back book!!!
