    Retrofit Kit to Create a Long-Cage Campy Nuovo Record Rear Derailleur

    I bought this item because I ride 1970s vintage bikes, and wanting to keep doing so going forward: 1. I realize that as I am aging, I will need ever-more-forgiving freewheel tooth-combinations to navigate hills/rolling terrains; and 2. The rear derailleurs that can accommodate greater than 26- or 28-tooth rear freewheels are few and far between; and 3. The Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleurs (which I favor) that are available for sale are almost always the short (normal) cage type, NOT the long-cage that is needed to accommodate the 26- or 28-tooth rear freewheels. So rather than depend on finding a long-cage in good condition, I bought this conversion kit so that I will have SOME way of converting a derailleur if I don't find a long-cage one. Hedge my bets. I have not used it ...

    Perfect long cages to convert Pre-1984 Campagnolo derailleurs...

    These Soma aluminum Rally-style long derailleur cage-plates are the PERFECT item for allowing conversion to low gears while still keeping your original well-built pre-1984 Campagnolo derailleurs!! The extra length allows ample chain-length for use of a triple crankset along with a freewheel or cassette having up to 34 teeth. The outer cage-plate is threaded to fit any Super Record, Nuovo Record, Nuovo Gran Sport, and both types of Rally rear derailleur. I live in a region with many hills and have ridden since 1973, thus I have been using increasingly lower gears as I have gotten older. I have tried practically every type of derailleur ever made, and have settled on the older Campy units fitted with these cage-plates... PH

    A good to get that classic Campag gear onto bigger sprockets

    This cunning solution is simple to fit to the specified Campagnolo gears by using just one allen key. It provides a capability to use a wider range of gears as was available originally with the Campagnolo Rally but is MUCH less expensive than the original item. I would have preferred a stop on the plate as available on the original cage but this can easily be added by a simple bit of light engineering. Please note that these cages fit the Nuovo Record/ Super Record gears up to the mid 80s. They will not fit on a Victory or Triomphe mechanism as the main mounting hole is too small. In summary these cages (satin or shiny) are well manufactured good value solutions to convert your classic racing mechanism into an Eroica friendly touring derailleur.

    Climb a wall.

    I've purchased two sets of these long derailleur cages and they are brilliant. One is installed on a 1984 Campagnolo Super Record and the other is installed on a 1977 Nuovo Record derailleur. Now I can ride my Eroica Vintage bikes on any route and not be concerned about pushing big gear. They handle a 42 x 34 just fine.
