This 1970s cop show developed quite a following as it documented the adventures of three rookie police officers. Set in California, the show followed Willie, a young guy barely done with college; Mike, a former marine; and Terry, who was recruited to the profession as part of a minority program. Together they deal with the struggles of police work as their families try to deal with the fear of losing them to the job. This set contains all 23 episodes from the show's first season.

The Rookies Rock!
Boy, I tell ya, if any show brings back sweet memories as a kid, it has to be this show. I think this show influenced me to become a cop and marry a nurse. The show has been beautifully re-mastered in every aspect of the meaning. Each episode is clear and void of scratches or spots here and there. Shout Factory has out done themselves and they deserve a....shout...out ! I love the show because it shows rookies growing as men and as police officers. It has a human touch missing in today's t.v. shows. The nurse, Jill, played by a young Kate Jackson, is strong, tender and compassionate. She shines even though she is not a "Rookie". Willy, Mike and Terry are always there for each other and support each other when duty calls. Their off duty time is typical of the '70's, but Lord, I still love ... RARE TV SHOW FINALLY ON DVD!
I have not seen the Dvds yet...but I am a fan of the show and Hpe they release season 2, 3, 4.. I did note that the original Pilot, which was a 90 minute ABC TV movie of the week in 1972 is NOT included in the Dvd set which is unfortunate. On the other hand, if you wanted or did record this show yourself off of television you relaly MUSt buy the DVD set because the prints circulated on TV were either all (and I mean ALL)had the violence (fights, gunshots, blood) "removed" by the syndicator "viacom" and the show was virtually impossible to watch in reruns. TV LAND offered the first season and about half of thr second season (ONLY) in reruns RESTORED with the violence left intact escept the chopped out about 5 minutes of each episode for commercials. SO I defintely reccomend buying this DVD ... I have not seen the Dvds yet...but I am a fan of the show and Hpe they release season 2, 3, 4.. Brought back all the memories! I loved it!
Brought back all the memories as soon as the opening theme started! I loved all the 70's cops shows. The Rookies was one of my favorites. My 5 year-old son and I watched them all together. He couldn't wait to watch the next one. Neither could I. I can't wait till then next seaon comes out. God help both of us if it takes years! Anyone who rates this video below excellent has either never experienced 70's TV series or forgot what they were like. They aren't like today's more realistic shows; they are a bit cheesy; but remember, alot's changed in the nearly 40 years since these came out originally, and for the time, these were the best thing going! The Rookies - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2007, 5-D
Has been one of my all time favorite cop shows. After all these years the show is still great. Cops get to be good guys & they get to win. DVD is great. Fun to see how many "current" stars started out in small roles. Hopefully they will release the other seasons soon.
