About this product

Product Information

Budding photographers and seasoned professionals alike love the classic Maxxum 5 SLR by Minolta. Packed with features, this camera has an ultra-high-speed shutter that moves at an astounding 1/4000th second, allowing you to capture even a cheetah running full speed in stunning clarity. The massive power behind the Minolta's motor allows you to shoot continuously at 3 frames per second. The compact, lightweight body offers an incredible range of features, including state-of-the-art autofocus technology and a durable and powerful film drive. The Maxxum 5 has an ambient light meter that uses a 14-segment Honeycomb Pattern. The metering system and its microprocessor find all the elements that make up your photo, from the subject to background and foreground. It calculates exposure values for all areas and provides the information to the onboard computer. The result is a perfect exposure, giving you the high-quality photographs you have been aiming for.The top-mounted LCD display provides information on the camera's current settings. This includes shutter speed, aperture setting, battery condition, flash on/off, and mode. Also on the top, the Mode Dial allows you to adjust the camera between Program Auto-Exposure, Shutter Priority AE, Aperture Priority AE, and Manual. The Custom Function Mode gives you 14 additional modes so that you can set your Minolta just the way you like it. If needed, a reset button will return most of the settings to their default. You have a lot of control with this Minolta. The film speed can be set manually from ISO 6 to 6400. In Automatic AF, this camera determines whether your subject is still or moving. In Continuous-Predictive AF, the camera tracks movement right through shutter release. Single-Shot AF locks the focus when shooting still objects. In the viewfinder, there is an EV scale to help you check the exposure compensation. If you want, you can adjust in 0.5 increments. The lens mount on this unit is like that on all Maxxums, so any auto-focus Minolta-mount lenses will work automatically. You can adjust the exposure by changing the lens aperture value. A simple flick of a switch will move the focus back and forth between auto and manual. The built-in flash can be set on auto, fill-in, off, and red-eye reduction, or flip it up when you need fill-in flash. To activate the flash, just press the button with the lightning bolt symbol. For more power, there is also a hot shoe with a locking system to keep an external flash in place. For focus accuracy, the camera uses a seven-position focus point indicator located in the viewfinder. You can get great results with your subject off center thanks to Minolta's Focus Area display system. With Minolta's Eye-Start, you have instant auto-exposure and autofocus no matter what the conditions are the minute you bring the viewfinder to your eye.Minolta makes 35 mm film cameras easy to use. There is an indicator for the right leader length. Loading is automatic with the first frame positioned perfectly when you close the back, and the Film Chamber Lock prevents the accidental opening of the back cover with a roll still inside.

I’m leaving a review because the seller is super nice and very responsive. The bill was packaged well ,fast shipping & great value. I loved the bolo but unfortunately it was missing the pc in the back that holds it in place . To no fault of the seller I didn’t notice it but unfortunately it’s not wearable. So i returned it . Again very good to deal with

  • Great for Beginners

This camera is packed with lots of features and perfect for film beginners! I've had it for a couple months now and its my favorite camera so far. Came in perfectly quality and limited scratches

  • Really good AF camera for newby and hobbyist photographers

I've taken some really good photos with the Minolta Maxxum 5 using a 50mm f/1.7 lens and some decent to pretty good photos (in good light) with the 70-300 Macro lens. The Maxxum 5 is a breeze to learn and use. First 35mm film camera I ever bought that wasn't a fixed lens P&S or a wanna be 35mm SLR with interchangeable lens capability (Minolta QTSi). If I had the time and resources to develop my own film, I'd be using this camera a whole lot more than I do.
