I recently purchased a Fuji X-T2 around 6 months ago and stumbled across the world that is vintage lenses adapted for use on modern mirrorless cameras. I was intrigued, so when a YouTuber enthused about various M42 mount lenses and particularly encouraged people to buy the Helios 44M if they were to come across it, I took the opportunity. This particular lens was in beautiful condition and produces outstanding portrait shots with that swirly bokeh this lens is known for. The fact it's a manual focus lens is a bonus for me, I cut my teeth back in the days of film and shooting with this lens feels like getting back to 'real' photography. I will echo the advice I followed, if you see one of these lenses in good condition just buy it already!

The Helios 44 is a direct copy of the Zeiss Biota. However when 'Mother Russia' made the copy that actually improved it. Whereas the original needed to be stopped down at least 1/2 a stop this is pin sharp even wide open at f2. At 58 mm it is just that fraction longer than a standard 50 mm , on a full frame DSLR the effective focal length is 90 mm. This means it is an ideal portrait lens. The 'Bokah' means that by using this wide open you can focus on the face only and leave the background as a pleasing Bokah. My son is a professional photographer using Canon kit, but since I bought him a Helios 44 with an EOS adapter he now uses the Helios for all his portrait work, he rates it better than any Canon lens in his kit when it comes to portraits. .

Really pleased with this little stunner, good value for money. Alright its full manual, but that makes you work and makes you become better at photography. The images are clear the bokeh is lovely and swirly with a good quality. For a cheap prime lens, give it a go, you will be surprised what you get from your camera.

Nice for photographers bit you need to be patient with manual focus and dynic shoots are hard ro catch. If you are planning to use it for video i would choose it for artistic shoots more than dynamic or music videos.

I bought the lens to use with a CanonR5. I bought a cheap adapter that works extremely well with the lens. I get some indicators that illuminate on-screen and show when in focus. You can actually see the Bokeh effects appearing in the display. I Have taken some real interesting photos with the lens and am looking to learning how to use the bokeh effect to it's full potential. Fot te price, it is excellent value.
