This is the third format I've owned of this movie thus far, VHS, DVD and now finally Blu-Ray and may I add each purchase has been well worth it. Like owning and watching it again for the first time. Brandon Lee's performance in the title role is nothing short of definitive. He owned it from the first frame to the last. And the movie itself (albeit fiction) is just as tragic as that of Brandon's real life death in conjuction with the making of this picture. I cringe at the rumors a remake is possibly in the works. Ask anyone who has viewed this picture and I'm sure they'll agree this film is a classic and any remake would be totally unneccesary.

First of all there is a great movie. The Crow is a cult classic, but I don't mean to demean it at all by calling it one. Based on the comic book of the same name, The Crow has a great premise (a man comes back from the dead to avenge the death of the woman he loves) and is made well. It's a dark film made in muted, dark colors, almost black and white. The action sequences are great (after all, Brandon Lee is Bruce Lee's son). This would have been Brandon's break-out role if he hadn't died. It also has one of my favorite fight scenes, the shoot out at Top Dollar's. And Ernie Hudson is surprisingly good in his role in the movie. And a great soundtrack. Definitely one that should be in your library.
Brandon Lee's last Film. Tragically, Lee died during the last days of filming this dark, gothic comic book feel of a film. The film itself would have catapulted Brandon Lee into major-stardom. Knowing this only makes the movie darker, sadder, and more heart-wrenching. Based on the comic book series of the same name by James O'Barr, the movie stays close to its comic book roots. Dark imagery, up-close shots, and stark contrasts add to the comic book feel and gothic look of the movie. The music in the film, both soundtrack and songs, convey thoughts and imagery. The Crow is a story of love and revenge, loss and retribution. It is a portrait of the struggle between the pain of seeing the past, and the peace of gaining closure. Director Alex Proyas did a EXCELLENT job of capturing this struggle on film. While the bulk of the supporting cast is at the very believable, Michael Wincott is disturbingly creepy as the main antagonist "Top Dollar." Ernie Hudson, here playing a cop who thinks he's seeing a ghost, delivers a SOLID performance. But this movie is ALL Brandon Lee. He brought his martial arts background and talent to this film and gave 200%. He was also the movie's fight choreographer. This means: sit up and watch! This movie is 80% action, 5% comedy, and 15% heart-wrenching, tear-jerking tragedy. Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat!Read full review
THE CROW. Brandon Lee's brilliant, heart-breaking performance. Alex Proyas's great grasp of cool Goth & an overall unique and unforgettable film. It's not a "masterpiece" (like, say, Casablanca) but it is unique & super-cool & really stays with you. A perfect film in its own way, and I highly commend it. RIP Brandon (& Jon Polito & Michael Masse)

One of my top 10 of all times movies. A bittersweet story of romance interrupted by a brutal gang. Eric Draven, murdered with his sweetheart - comes back from the grave to seek justice. Much more to this story than your garden variety shoot em up. Deep and meaningful truths revealed about life and death. Very dark (both visually and story) of each gang member meeting his own violent death with an incredible climax of karma at the end.
