Can't compare to Scooby Doo 1 or 2
We bought this DVD as my son loves the other two feature films starring Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar. This film is not true to the original Scooby Doo, and the character Scooby Doo is poorly made. I didn't rate this compared to the other two. I don't understand why Fred had brown hair either. Disappointing.

great film for the family my kids love it and all adults love scooby doo all three movies are good fun the storys arent taxing but its only mindless fun just switch off and enjoy everyones favourite pooch detective

There are those who say that any third live-action "Scooby Doo" film should have had at least some of the cast from the first two involved in the production. There are others that say that as this film is a prequel the principal characters are younger and would have needed to be re-cast anyway. At least director Brian Levant is already with Hanna-Barbera cartoons and prequels, having been involved with "The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas". The casting is a mixed bag. Velma has gone ethnic, played by an actress of Japanese extraction (Hayley Kiyoko), but at least she looks and sounds the part, unlike the guy who plays Fred (Robbie Amell) who hasn't even dyed his hair blond for the role. Nick Palatas is a good "Shaggy", while the CGI "Scooby" now looks a lot more like he did in the ... As with any series prequel of how the cast first got together and met, there are plot holes you could drive a tank through. For one thing, you have to ignore everything you might have seen in "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". Sccoby Doo's older fans who have been with the series since it's original premiere in 1969 may be a bit disappointed with the film, but anyone under the age of about ten who watches "Cartoon Network" will love this film. Any long-time fan of the series can guess who the villain is less than a third of the way in quite easily, but no doubt it will keep the youngsters amused and guessing, so if you have a couple of young nephews, nieces or grandkids that you need to keep quiet for 90 minutes or so, this new "Scooby Doo" movie will fit the bill just fine, and there's just enough sly references to the series past to keep the older fans amused too. There's a sequel or two more in this franchise yet. I hope they find a blond Fred though!

I brought this for my two boys aged 6 and 3 as they are mad on scooby doo, they enjoyed it but it did not seem to captivate them as much as scooby doo and scooby doo 2.
